Honouring the memory of Liufau Tu’iha’angana Vake by building a safer Aotearoa for all.

A Country Free From Social Violence.

We were born from tragedy, a tragedy that shattered our hearts and changed the course of our lives. In the wake of the senseless and devastating death of our beloved friend, brother, and son, MMA fighter ‘Fau’ Vake, we found our purpose. In 2021 Fau's life was tragically and violently cut short at the age of 25, a life full of potential, kindness, and promise, taken by a single cowardly punch.

Our Story

Walk Without Fear Trust chairman Eugene Bareman gives a brief overview of the Walk Without Fear Trust.

His death, left an indelible scar on all who knew him. It was a loss that reverberated through our community. From this unthinkable pain, Walk Without Fear Trust was founded. Our mission is clear: we refuse to let Fau's memory fade into the past. His legacy, his spirit, and the love he gave to those around him will live on through our work.

At Walk Without Fear, we are dedicated to making a difference. We stand united in our commitment to reducing the impact of social violence in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Through education, advocacy, and support, we seek to foster safer communities and prevent the kind of senseless violence that took Fau from us. Every day, we strive to turn our grief into action, ensuring that Fau's name and the lessons we’ve learned from this tragedy are never forgotten. His death has become the catalyst for change, and we will not rest until this vision of a safer, more compassionate world becomes a reality for everyone in our country.
